Every new year is a fresh start, a great opportunity to change bad habits into good ones and build new routines.  It is also a new page to open and that is why people start to make their own new year resolutions. Did you know that around 12% of individuals who establish New Year’s resolutions felt that they tend to be successful in fulfilling their objectives? Nevertheless, 50% of new year resolutions fail in the first few months itself.

So here’s what you can do to make your New Year Resolutions a success!

Be more specific

Many individuals make plans to ‘Lose weight’, ‘earn more money’, ‘get in shape’ and so many. So these are very common goals set by many individuals. Thereby, instead of having such a goal, you should focus on something specific and concrete or else something that’s achievable.

For instance, you can prepare yourself to lose 10 pounds and start making daily commitments such as running for 10-15 minutes.

Starting with Small Steps

Focusing on achieving a goal too quickly is one major reason as to why many individuals fail. Overdoing, over exercising and doing everything beyond the normal limit will eventually ruin your goals. Thereby, always take small steps and start with small steps.

If you want to lose 10 pounds this year, you can start with a small step by going for jog two or three times per week and then eventually increasing the days.

Limiting Your Resolutions

Having a long list of resolutions is another mistake done by many individuals. Experts suggests that it’s always good to have one goal and focus your energies on it instead of spreading your energy on many different ones. Thereby, you can focus on one goal at a time if you want to make it successful in the long run.

Planning is essential

After establishing your ideal and specific new year resolution goals, the next ideal step is to make a detailed plan on how you are going to achieve the goal for the next couple of months. It can be a detailed written plan that you can follow. Absence of a plan can make you to easily give up on the goal as you are not ready to face challenges and are not aware about the tactics that can be used to overcome challenges. Noting down the challenges and obstacles you might encounter during the year is vital for an effective plan.

Get back your motivation

It is very common to feel highly motivated during the first few days or months of the year since you have not actually faced the challenges yet. When you start to feel the actual pressure and difficulty of achieving the goal, your motivation starts to reduce.

During this time, it’s very important to remind yourself as to why you are doing this and imagine the outcome or the end result. Find sources of inspiration and get support from your loved ones to keep you motivated and energetic.
