August 26th is a special day for all the fur friends as it is known as the International Dog Day dedicated to all our canine companions.
Animal advocate, family and pet expert Colleen Paige introduced the National Dog Day in 2004 in the United States. Later in 2013, it entered the legislation of New York. August 26th is a special day for Paige as it was the day she adopted her first dog, when she was 10-year-old child.
Since then, people and countries around have accepted the International Dog Day.
The core purpose of celebrating this day is purely to encourage adoption and raise awareness to the conditions of animals. The purpose does not end there, as this day is important to discourage people from buying fur friends from unethical backyard breeders or puppy mills, rescue dogs from abusive owners and appreciate your beloved fur baby. Most importantly, this day is special for all the dogs irrespective of their breed.
Here’s Few Ways to Celebrate the International Dog Day!
If you already have a pet and do not wish to adopt another dog, then the easiest way to celebrate the day is by providing financial support or donations for local animal shelters. Some shelters lack pet supplies such as enough treats, toys, towels, pet shampoo and etc which you can provide.
If you are planning to introduce a new fur friend, then try adopting a canine companion from a local shelter who is waiting to be loved. However, this decision comes with a lot of responsibilities as you need to take good care of your lifelong friend providing the essentials and immense love.
If you already have a fur baby at home, all you have to do is pamper your pet with a Good meal or treat. Go for a walk, play with it, give a new toy and spend some valuable time. Try teaching them a new game, trick or even give them a good brush down along with a massage. Undoubtedly, they will love it.
Not all are aware about the purpose of celebrating the international dog day, therefore it’s your duty to spread awareness about the purpose. When celebrating or enjoying time with your fur friend, do not forget to do a fun photo shoot and upload them on all social media platforms to raise word of mouth. Make sure to drop few lines about the purpose and importance under the caption.
On this International Dog Day, we want to take a moment to celebrate and feel grateful and appreciate all the fur friends around. The world is a better place with their presence.
